Central Air Conditioning System

Introduction

Central air conditioning system circulate cool air through a system of supply and return ducts. Supply ducts and registers (openings in the walls, floors, or ceilings covered by grills) carry cooled air from air conditioner to the interior. This cooled air become warmer as it through the interior. Then, it flows back to the central air conditioner through return ducts and registers.

The major parts in central air conditioning system are: compressor, condenser coil, evaporator coil, air handling unit, fan and air filters.

Learning Objectives / Experiments

- Principle of central air conditioning system and its main components.

- Recirculating and outer air operation.

- Changes of state in the h-x diagram for humid air: cooling, heating, humidifying or dehumidifying and mixing.
